The Great Northwest Glass Quest, that is.
The committee, an ad hoc group of Design Stanwood inspired to find viable ways to lure Olympic-bound traffic to the area, has created a treasure hunt for local businesses to host next year, Feb.12-28. Full Story
Island County clerk resigns
Island County Clerk Sharon Franzen will resign from her position as of Dec. 15.
“I just feel like I need to take care of myself and focus on my family,” she said.
The resignation will permit her to spend more time with her mother, who is in assisted living. Franzen said the decision was difficult, and required a lot of soul searching. Full Story
Stanwood High graduate named top young entrepreneur
After graduating from Stanwood High School in 2004, Jesse Gossett decided to attend university on the other side of the country.
“My parents have always encouraged me to take risks,” said Gossett.

Flu concerns bring changes at Skagit Valley Hospital
Skagit Valley Hospital announced on Oct. 22 that it will limit access points to the healthcare facility, placing restrictions on the age and number of visitors, and screening visitors and patients for flulike symptoms upon arrival at the hospital. Full Story
6,500 homes lose power over weekend
Stanwood and Camano Island were among the hardest hit areas in a power outage caused by Friday night windstorms.
Around 6,500 homes in the area had lost power by 6 p.m. Friday, said Mike Thorne, Snohomish County Public Utility District (PUD) spokesman. Full Story
Snohomish County protects manufactured home parks
About 2,000 manufactured homeowners will stay in their homes due to a decision by Snohomish County Council.
The council passed two ordinances designed to preserve existing manufactured home parks, an important form of affordable home ownership in Snohomish County that has experienced significant losses in recent years. Full Story
H1N1 shots for priority groups
Local health-care groups are gearing up to vaccinate thousands of people at risk of complications from H1N1 influenza at nine clinics in Snohomish County starting Saturday, Oct. 31.
