Snohomish County and the City of Everett announce a Tues., Nov. 3 public meeting designed to receive comments related to the affordable housing and community development needs of low and moderate income persons in the county. The meetings are to assist the two entities to develop plans that will determine priorities, establish goals and guide the use of federal housing and community development funds. Tuesday’s meeting will be at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd., at 3:30 p.m. Both oral and written comments will be accepted. Safe trick-r-treat at Masonic Center

The Stanwood Masonic Center, 27205 102nd Ave NW, will be open to the public for the second annual “Halloween Trick or Treat” evening, Sat., Oct. 31, 6 to 9 p.m. The community is welcome to bring the kids down for cookies, punch and candy.

Halloween party for community kids

A Halloween Lego party for parents and kids ages 3-12, will be held Sat., Oct. 31, 6-7:30 p.m., at Twin City Elementary Gym. Hosted by folks from Warm Beach Free Methodist Church, there will be free carnival-style games for parents and kids to enjoy together. Come in costume.

D onations needed for benefit feast

There will be a benefit soup/salad feast and auction at the Stanwood American Legion Hall Sat., Nov. 14, 4 to 8 p.m., for Matt Murphy, a soldier who lost his leg in Afganistan. Matt spent his summers on Camano Island, and his friends are spearheading this benefit. The event is open to the public. The raffle and auction include weekend getaways as well as other items. Welcome tea for new library manager

The Stanwood-Camano community is invited to a welcome tea for new Stanwood Library manager, Jill Campbell, Thurs., Oct. 29, 2-4 p.m. This “get acquainted” event in the library meeting room is being hosted by the Stanwood-Camano Friends of the Library.

Benefit bingo for homes lost to fire

The Cinder-Ella Fire Auxiliary to Fire District 19 at Silvana, is sponsoring a bingo benefit Sun., Nov. 15, 6 p.m. for two families in the Silvana area who suffered home fires. The fire district, along with the auxiliary, aids families during disasters, and would appreciate a good turn out for this benefit. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. to Viking Hall in Silvana, snacks and door prizes. Also, new members are being sought for the auxiliary, and will be most welcome. Call 652-7691 for more information.

Community conversation on drugs

The public is invited to attend a free community conversation on drug awareness and identification Wed., Oct. 28, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Stanwood Middle School. A speaker from the Snohomish County Drug Task Force, Deputy David Chitwood, will give a thorough presentation on drug prevention, awareness, and identification, and will give information what drugs are available to children in the Stanwood/Camano communities. Sponsored by the Stanwood Camano Community Resource Center and the Healthy Choices Coalition. For more information, contact the center, 629-5257.

Restless Legs Syndrome group to meet

Skagit Valley Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) Support Group is holding its fall quarterly meeting at Island Hospital, 1211 24th St., Anacortes, in Conference Rooms 1, 2 and 3 Sat., Nov. 7, 10 a.m. to noon. Charlotte Spada will lead in an annual “RLS Sharing Session,” giving members a chance to share RLS-related issues. This forum allows members to help each other by sharing questions and answers to problems that arise when living with RLS. Anyone suffering from RLS, knows someone with it, or is interested in receiving information regarding the illness, is welcome to attend.

Free pumpkin portraits for Halloween

Hope Haven Photography will be offering free pumpkin portraits Sat., Oct. 31, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Those in costume will receive a free 5x7 in a special presentation holder. Fall treats, and special awards for best costume. Free coffee, hot chocolate and spiced cider, at 28822 48th Ave. NW, Stanwood. Nick Vigarino appears this weekend

The Nick Vigarino Trio will be at the Viking Bar and Grill in Stanwood Fri., Oct. 30, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. and will entertain for the Halloween party on Oct. 31 with costume contest and prizes, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

S tanwood/Camano Women’s Club

If you are looking to form new friendships and enjoy fun activities, join other women Nov. 7 for a new member coffee at 10 a.m. in Stanwood’s Scandia Coffee House. The women, 40 and up, do a variety of social activites ranging from movies, coffee, dining out, shopping, cooking, crafts, spa night, ladies night, couples night, parties, brunch and more.

Harvest dinner in Silvana’s Viking Hall

Silvana Viking Hall will be the scene of the annual harvest dinner Sat., Nov. 8, with doors open at 4 p.m., dinner at 5. This is also a donation fundraiser, with live music, raffle, food, etc. Contact Silvana Mercantile for information, 652-9081.

Fall berry and color tour this weekend

Christianson’s Nursery is hosting a fall berry and color tour Sat., Oct. 31, 1 p.m. The tour is complimentary but you must pre-register, 360-466-3821. John Christianson is anxious to share the beauty that is La Conner Flats dressed for fall in the 11- acre English garden that is adjacent to the nursery. Following the tour, there will be tea and other delicacies at the Granary hosted by Margie Hart. There is a cost, and reservations can be made by calling La Conner Flats, 360-466-3190.

Buy poinsettias by this Friday deadline

Holiday poinsettia pre-sales for the class of 2010 are still available for orders, which must be received by Fri., Oct. 30. Proceeds go towards providing the senior class with a safe, fun party graduation night. Poinsettia’s are 6” (5+blooms) no. 1 quality, red or white, with decorative wraps. Pick up is Thurs., Dec. 3, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Stanwood Middle School professional development room. Warm Beach harvest time bazaar

The 2009 harvest time bazaar will be held Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6 and 7 at Warm Beach Fellowship, 20420 Marine Dr. in Beachwood Lounge. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Shoppers can browse through Mother Hubbard’s cupboard, the bake shop, farmers’ market, Christmas House; make selections from ceramics, books and toys that will be on display. Between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., homemade pie, ice cream and coffee will be available for a small cost, in the Garden Room.

December 12, a BelAir charter bus will depart from the Stanwood Community and Senior Center to the Christmas tree lighting in Leavenworth. Call the Center, 629-7403, for reservations.

The Harvest Tea Room will be open at the Stanwood Community and Senior Center Sat., Nov. 7, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Serving fresh scones, tea, variety of tea sandwiches and dessert, for a small charge.

Bazaar table rental for Christmas

Reserve a table now for the annual Josephine Christmas Bazaar Nov. 13, eight-foot tables are available, register by Nov. 2, 629- 2126, ext. 146. The bazaar is in the multi-purpose room where sale items will include jewelry, scarves, handknit sweaters, ceramics and fused glass objects. Lunch will be available as well as a bake sale.

D inner and dance honors the Nichols

“Here’s Looking at You!” is the theme for the second annual Josephine Sunset Home dinner and dance Sat., Nov. 7. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, the event will honor contributions from the community, and also the legacy of Bob and Marion Nichols. Reserve tickets before Oct. 30, 629- 2126, for an event featuring fine dining, specialty drinks, dance instruction, entertainment and benefit raffles.

Booster club signups available now

Stanwood High School Band Booster Club sign ups are happening now. If you have a student involved in one of the many band programs at the high school, or you are just interested in lending your support, the club is available to meet with you. Call 629- 4992, or e-mail morturn1@hotmail.com.

S tanwood ski and snowboard signups

Sign ups will be held Mon., Nov. 9 at the high school cafeteria, 6-8 p.m. for the ski and snowboard programs that continue for either six or eight weeks. It is open for kids grades 6 through 12 and travels to Mt. Baker Saturdays starting Dec 12. Discounted season passes are available for kids in the program. Flu immunization clinic scheduled

A flu immunization clinic will be held at Haggen Food & Pharmacy in Stanwood Thurs., Nov. 5, 2-7 p.m. Shots are available to anyone age 10 and older for a fee, and no appointments are necessary. Medicare and most insurance companies can be billed if participants bring their Medicare or insurance card.
