V-ball squad earns first league victory

Stanwood’s volleyball team picked up its first conference wins last Monday evening against Oak Harbor. The Lady Sparts used excellent team play on the home court to overwhelm the Wildcats 25-19, 25-16, 25-15.
Two nights later the local high netters lost a marathon match to Everett’s Cascade 3-2 to go 1-3 in league play, 5-5 overall.
Against the Harborites sophomore Kaci Jones accumulated nine kills and provided 12 assists to her teammates. Sarah Titus led the defense with 12 digs.
In the 25-18, 14-25, 25- 9, 24-26, 15-6 loss to the Bruins, the Sparts’ Kelsey Kanehen paced the Stanwood offensive effort with 11 kills. Jones had six service aces while Titus had 19 digs for the evening.
