Haugstad shuts down two more foes in goal

Senior defender Hailey Storbeck has been a stalwart member of the Spartan girls’ soccer team since her freshman year.
Stanwood’s Haley Haugstad performed flawlessly in goal, Riley Henderson netted a trio of shots and four different team members scored during last week’s two shutout victories over WesCo 4A North soccer opponents.
The Sparts ran over Oak Harbor 5-0 last Tuesday and then Henderson tallied in the 77th minute to beat Cascade 1-0 Thursday night.
Those victories moved the Spartans closer to a playoff position in the conference as they have now accumulated a 6-4-2 record worth 20 points. Undefeated division-leading Everett (12-0-0) will move into the 3A playoff at season’s end, leaving Lake Stevens (8-3- 1, 25 points) and Monroe (7-3-2, 23) as the only 4A teams ahead of the Spartans. Three 4A representatives will earn post-season berths at season’s end two weeks hence.
Snohomish (6-5-0, 18) and Marysville-Pilchuck (5-6-1, 16) remain the only other threats to Stanwood’s District 1 playoff hopes.
Against Oak Harbor, Henderson slipped two balls past the Wildcat keeper in the 19th and 54th minutes with junior Corinne Teichgrab assisting on the latter goal.
Lady Spartan teammates Claire Kidd, Keanae Loera (Kalina Eveland assist) and junior forward Jenny Maley (Loera) added points to the board as well.
