Sustained drives and opportunistic thievery spelled doom for the Snohomish Panthers Friday night as the resurgent Stanwood football team (3-2 in league, 3-4 overall) rolled over the visitors 36-3 at Spartan Stadium Friday night. Full Story
Lady Sparts outrun most competitors
Astonishingly, the Stanwood girls’ cross country team claimed first place in three of the four races during the annual running of the North County Invitational at Marysville’s Cedarcrest Golf Course last Thursday. Full Story
Spartan harriers race to fifth place, beat 15 teams
At the end of the day, following the North County Invite, the Spartan boys’ cross-country squad had accumulated a total of 39 points.
That accumulated score earned the local harriers a fifth place among the gathered 352 individuals from 20 teams. Each runner ran with members of his particular class in school so placings are based on how each racer fared within that class. Full Story
Haugstad shuts down two more foes in goal
Stanwood’s Haley Haugstad performed flawlessly in goal, Riley Henderson netted a trio of shots and four different team members scored during last week’s two shutout victories over WesCo 4A North soccer opponents.
The Sparts ran over Oak Harbor 5-0 last Tuesday and then Henderson tallied in the 77th minute to beat Cascade 1-0 Thursday night. Full Story
V-ball squad earns first league victory
Stanwood’s volleyball team picked up its first conference wins last Monday evening against Oak Harbor. The Lady Sparts used excellent team play on the home court to overwhelm the Wildcats 25-19, 25-16, 25-15.
Two nights later the local high netters lost a marathon match to Everett’s Cascade 3-2 to go 1-3 in league play, 5-5 overall. Full Story
Aquanauts submerge Glacier, Snohomish
Winning two of the three relays, a pair of freestyle victories from Alisa Stang and strong swims from Whitney Weinert and Zanetta Uy in the breaststroke and 500 free, respectively, set the tone for the Lady Spartan swim team’s victory over Glacier Peak (90-80) and Snohomish (119-51) last Thursday afternoon.

Two tennis victories move Sparts up
By outplaying Monroe and Lake Stevens with identical 5-2 scores last week, the Spartan boys’ tennis team (10-5) moved into third place in the WesCo North behind Everett (15-0) and Arlington (11-4).
Actually, because the undefeated Seagulls are a 3A team, the Sparts are in second place among 4A schools, just a match ahead of Snohomish (9-5). Full Story
