Routine water flush
The Public Works department performed a routine flush of the city’s water system last Wednesday evening after a complaint was received regarding water quality earlier in the day.
Public Works Director Andrew Bullington said they waited until after Schenk Packing, a northwest regional packer/grinder located in Stanwood, had finished for the day since the company uses a large quantity of water in its processes.
Over the years, the city routinely flushed its water lines because of naturally occurring minerals that built up in the lines. Chlorine, which was added to the system last year, has helped minimize mineral accumulation, explained Bullington, but the pipes still need to be occasionally flushed.
