New reporter joins staff
Adam Stewart
Adam Stewart, 32, who holds a Master of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Science in English education, joined the NEWS
as a staff reporter last week.
Stewart earned his degrees at Bemidji State University on an athletic scholarship in ice hockey. In graduate school, he was an instructor for first-year composition students and spent a semester in France teaching English as a second language. Stewart was born in France and moved to Chicago, Illinois with his family when he was a year old, which is where he grew up.
Immediately after graduating from college in 2006, he landed a managing editor job with the Hoffman Tribune in Minnesota. He managed the news department, reported on local news and helped bring the paper into the 21st Century with transitioning it from cut/paste to digital technology.
He moved to Bellingham last year, where his wife, Katrina, manages an ice arena and teaches figure skating. Meanwhile, he freelanced as a writer for Foothills Gazette in Glacier and filled in as a line cook for Chuckanut Brewery in Bellingham.
Stewart said he is looking forward to getting to know the Stanwood/Camano Island community and reporting again fulltime.
“I am excited for the opportunity to continue my passion for reporting here at the NEWS,”
said Stewart. “Everyone in the community has been extremely welcoming.”
He will cover education, north Snohomish County, features and general assignments.
Stewart replaces Rick Wood who took a position with the Fort Lewis Northwest Guardian newspaper last month. Wood had been with the NEWS
for three years.
