An all candidate forum for north Snohomish County and Camano Island is Wed., Oct. 21, 6:30 p.m. in the Stanwood Middle School cafeteria, 9405 271 St.

Consignment sale benefits MOPS

A MOPS consignment sale will be held this weekend at the Warm Beach Free Methodist Church, 20815 Marine Dr., look for signs. Friday’s hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday’s hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Baby and children’s clothing, maternity clothing, strollers, baby equipment, high chairs, children’s furniture, cribs, toddler beds, lots of toys, etc. Saturday, all items priced with yellow tag are half price. Percentage of the sales will benefit Warm Beach MOPS and Cedarhome MOPS groups. (MOPS is for mothers with preschool children, who gather Tuesday mornings for Bible study and fellowship, while their children are in age-appropriate classes.)

Freeborn Ladies Aid annual bazaar

The Ladies Aid of Freeborn Lutheran Church once again presents its annual fall holiday bazaar Sat., Oct. 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be free prayer squares to send soldiers, loved ones in hospitals, nursing homes, or for anyone who is ill, hurting, grieving, and also handcrafted items, gift baskets, baby items, garden produce, hats, scarves, aprons, and a fudge mix that you bake yourself. The raffle is for a queen-sized quilt. Proceeds will benefit the food bank, county charity organizations, and Lutheran World Relief. A spokesperson said that they will be receiving matching funds from Thrivent For Lutherans to support these charity works. The church is located just off the freeway at exit 215, turn right and up the hill to 2304 300th.

Buy poinsettias from Class of 2010

Holiday poinsettia pre-sales for the class of 2010 are available now for orders, which must be received by Fri., Oct. 30. Proceeds go towards providing the senior class with a safe, fun party graduation night. Poinsettia’s are 6 inch no. 1 quality, red or white, with decorative wraps. Pick up is Thurs., Dec. 3, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Stanwood Middle School professional development room. Mark calendars for Warm Beach event

The 2009 harvest time bazaar will be held Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6 and 7 at Warm Beach Fellowship, 20420 Marine Dr. in Beachwood Lounge. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Shoppers can browse through Mother Hubbard’s cupboard, the bake shop, farmers’ market, Christmas House; make selections from ceramics, books and toys that will be on display. Between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., homemade pie, ice cream and coffee will be available for a small cost, in the Garden Room.

Lutefisk dinner is this Sunday

Long a tradition in Scandinavian Stanwood, the annul lutefisk dinner is this Sun., Oct. 25, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Stanwood High School. This is the 57th year the Stanwood Lions Club has cooked and served lutefisk and accompanying dishes. Free for children under age 7, and served family style, all you can eat. Art talk at Gallery by the Bay

Thurs., Oct. 22, Jeanine Boree will present a slide show and discussion titled “Found in translation: the landscape of the Southwest and its impact upon artists and their world.” The 7 p.m. event will be at Gallery by the Bay in East Stanwood. No charge, but donations accepted to benefit the art classroom. For more information, call 629-4297.

Peace poster contest open to youngsters

The Stanwood Lions Club is again sponsoring a peace poster contest for young people between the ages of 11 and 13 in the Stanwood area. Art classes in both middle schools have taken up the challenge to express their feelings for world peace in a work of art they can share with the world. Other groups, such as Scouts, churches and private schools, are encouraged to participate. Go to lionsclubs.org and click on the link to peace poster contest. Host family needed for student here

A host family is needed for a foreign exchange student who is currently attending Stanwood High School. He is a boy from Denmark who likes soccer, bike riding, skiing and is outgoing and makes friends easily, he is very active and enjoys school activities. Students come with good English skills, their own insurance and spending money, and the desire to be a member of an American family. Host families do not need to have teenagers of their own; young families as well as empty nesters are excellent high school student hosts. N ovember tea at center

The Harvest Tea Room will be open at the Stanwood Community and Senior Center Sat., Nov. 7, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Serving fresh scones, tea, variety of tea sandwiches and dessert, for a small charge.

Bazaar table for rent

Reserve a table now for the annual Josephine Christmas Bazaar Nov. 13, eight-foot tables are available, register by Nov. 2, 629- 2126, ext. 146. The bazaar is in the multi-purpose room where sale items will include jewelry, scarves, handknit sweaters, ceramics and fused glass objects and a bake sale. Lunch will be available.

D inner and dance honors the Nichols

“Here’s Looking at You!” is the theme for the second annual Josephine Sunset Home dinner and dance Sat., Nov. 7. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, the event will honor contributions from the community, and also the legacy of Bob and Marion Nichols. Reserve tickets before Oct. 30, 629- 2126, for an event featuring fine dining, specialty drinks, dance instruction, entertainment and benefit raffles.

Booster club signups available now

S tanwood ski and snowboard signups

Sign ups will be held Mon., Nov. 9 at the high school cafeteria, 6- 8 p.m.for the ski and snowboard programs that continue for either six or eight weeks. It is open for kids grades 6 thru 12 and travels to Mt. Baker Saturdays starting Dec 12. Discounted season passes are available for kids in the program. F all open house celebration at Z’s

To thank the many who have given to Christmas in July, and to the shoe event, Z’s All Things Good is having an open house celebration Fri., Oct. 23, 5 to 8 p.m. The public can meet the two new massage therapists, and there will be food, music (Rebecca from the Snowgoose is playing the hammer dulcimer). ‘Respect Life’ Fair is this weekend

Marie Stebing, youth group minister at St. Cecilia Church, will be chairman of this year’s “Respect Life Fair” set for Oct. 24 and 25. Father Peter West, associate director of Priests For Life, will speak at the 5 p.m. Saturday Mass, with dinner to follow in the coffee room. He will also speak at the 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday mass, with the fair and lunch afterwards, also in the coffee room. There will be displays with the theme of “Hooked on Life.”
