Loney and White eye mayoral seat

Road rage leads to display of firearm
Stanwood Police responded to the following calls recently: • A road rage incident in the 8800 block of SR 532 on Oct. 1 escalated into a firearm being displayed. The suspect vehicle was located on Camano Island and the firearm recovered. Full Story
North County Fire fights wildfire from land and air
North County Fire/EMS responded to a wildfire in the early afternoon of Oct. 7 in the 14700 block of Evergreen Way, the McKee's Beach area south of Warm Beach. A fast moving one-acre fire was headed up a steep slope. No residential structures were in jeopardy at the time and crews were able to establish a defensive plan to protect the surrounding communities. Full Story

Homeowners should think twice before burning leaves and grass. Smoke from outdoor burning contains toxic chemicals and aggravates asthma, allergies and bronchitis. Children and elders are especially susceptible to the harmful affects of smoke. Full Story
Chimney fire spreads to attic
North County Fire/EMS responded to a report of a chimney fire that had spread into an attic space in the 31900 block of 24th Avenue NW in the Freeborn area at about 9 p.m. Sunday. The first engine onscene reported smoke and some flames from the roof and first floor areas. Full Story
DNA evidence links Colton to ATM robbery
Another warrant has been issued, this time in San Juan County, for the arrest of Colton Harris-Moore. A state crime lab confirmed that traces of blood found on a sink at Island Market on Orcas Island following an attempted break in of an ATM machine Sept. 8, are that of Harris-Moore. Full Story
Candidates' forum: a good place for questions, answers
The general election is just around the corner and that means the American Association of University Women Candidates Night Forum. The annual meet the candidates' night will be Oct. 21, 6:30 p.m., at Stanwood Middle School, 9405 271st Street NW. Man identified in fatal accident
The fatal car crash that claimed the life of a Stanwood man last week was identified as Antonio Kallock, 28, by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner last Tuesday. The medical examiner lists the cause of death as blunt impact to the head. Full Story
Concerto competition for students
Snohomish County Music Teachers' Association will hold a concerto competition for music students Sat., Oct. 31, at the studio of Maria Sier in Snohomish. Counterfeit bills circulate around town
Stanwood Police reported to the following calls recently: • Counterfeit bills were used at a business in the 6900 block of 265th Street NW Sept. 25 and an investigation continues. • On Sept. 26, a business in the 26700 block of 72nd Ave. NW reported taking in counterfeit bills. Full Story
McKenna heaps praise on land trust for 25 years of success
