Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews were busy putting the finishing touches on Stanwood Station last week, including laying asphalt up to the station's platform that features two shelters. Mayor advises precautions with H1N1
H1N1 is already in the community, while the vaccine is just beginning to arrive. The influenza strain hasn't behaved like a typical one, said Dianne White, Stanwood mayor and local pharmacist, at a town hall meeting Tuesday. Sno-Isle Libraries has two possible 2010 budgets. If the levy lid lift of 9 cents, from 31 cents to 40 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, passes in the Nov. 3 general election, one will be used. The other is for if the measure fails. Full Story
Strategies for eating locally grown food
Jo Ann Hallen filled her freezer full of food since reading "Plenty: Eating Locally on the 100 Mile Diet." A regular user of the Stanwood Library, Hallen grew up in Riverside, Calif., and her parents didn't preserve food. "We were town people," Hallen said. Full Story
District focuses on improving instruction
Stanwood-Camano School District teachers are working on improving instruction. It's all in part to the district's response to its placement on the federal government's school improvement list after the district failed to meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) required by the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
