Spartans bombard Bearcats 34-19 for first grid win
A pumped-up assemblage of players, coaches and fans celebrated the Spartan football squad's (1-2 in league, 1-4 overall) solid 34-19 homecoming victory over Monroe Friday night. The win, which spoiled head Bearcat coach David Telford's own homecoming, was indeed a collaborative effort that involved many diverse elements. Full Story
Lady Sparts shut out archrival Eagles 2-0
Stanwood's soccer team (3-3-2 in league and overall) tied Lake Stevens (1-1) and scored a shutout over Arlington (2-0) in action last week. It was Riley Henderson's successful shot in the 30th minute of the Vikings' match to knot the score at 1-1 after Lake Stevens had scored at the 19-minute mark. Henderson was unassisted on the goal. Spartans defeat Highlanders in high-net action
After losing two straight sets to the visiting Shorecrest Highlanders and trailing 19-13 midway in the next, the Lady Spartan high netters (4-2 overall) were facing elimination in the final non-league match of the early season. Full Story
Lady Sparts out swum
Stanwood's swimmers were unable to overcome multiple victories from two of the Western 4A Conference's "power teams" and lost both meets in local aquatic action last week. Ironically, the Lady Spartans (0-3 in league, 2-3 overall) lost to Oak Harbor and then Jackson High by identical 102-68 scores. Full Story
Boys' XC team competes at Tomahawk Twilight Invite
By virtue of placing their top five runners in the first 100 participants, the Stanwood boys' cross country team finished ninth overall in the Tomahawk Twilight Invitational held under the lights at Marysville's Cedarcrest Golf Course Saturday evening. Full Story
