Stanwood man sentenced in fatal hit, run
Kevin Brewer, of Stanwood, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison last week after pleading guilty to a hit-and-run death. Brewer's vehicle had struck Nicole Cheek, of Marysville, on 34th Ave. N.E. north of Marysville in April 2008. Cheek's body was discovered by a passerby. Full Story
Stanwood man rescued off Three Fingers Mountain
Bad weather usually isn't lucky when you're hiking, but for one Stanwood man it's what got the injured man rescued. Although the man, 45, wasn't due back from climbing Three Fingers to the Saddle Lake trail until this past Saturday, after cold/wet weather moved into the area last Monday, a friend called for help. Council starts work on sign ordinance
Some businesses feel the city's current sign code is burdensome. The Stanwood City Council directed staff and the city's planning commission to begin work on several projects next year, including changes to the sign ordinance, at a special meeting last Thursday. Full Story
Missing teen found in Marysville
A 15-year-old boy that went missing last Monday afternoon from Stanwood High School was found safe four hours later in Marysville. Police were called about 3 p.m. regarding Zane Williams, a high-functioning autistic teen who had walked away from the campus. Full Story
Grant transforms local firefighters into paramedics
Ryan White decided he wanted to be a paramedic after riding along as a firefighter in the Camano Island Fire and Rescue medic unit. He became interested in medicine, and saw it as a "challenge and a chance to make a difference. Full Story
