Snohomish County Superior Court judge position 2 has five candidates hoping to fill an empty seat on the bench. Former Superior Court Judge David Hulbert, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Scott Lord, and lawyers Scott Peterson, Rico Tessandore and Joe Wilson are all seeking the spot left vacant when judge James Allendoerfer retired earlier this year. Firefighters open restaurant in historical fire station
he West End Fire Hall has a long history, and its story isn't over yet. Now 80 years after its foundation was poured, the fire station has been remodeled into Leatherheads, a new restaurant owned by firefighters Erich Schweiger and Chad McCoy, both from Camano Island Fire and Rescue's Terry's Corner Fire Station. Is Colton up to his antics again?
Despite recent media reports, Camano Island's Colton Harris-Moore has not been named as suspect in an incident involving a crashed stolen plane near Granite Falls. As of yet, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office does not have any official suspects, said Rebecca Hover, public information officer. Full Story
Asia Pacific earthquakes should be a wakeup call
The 7.9 earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga last Tuesday resulted in tidal wave warnings in Hawaii and Cannon Beach, Oregon. It was yet another wakeup call to the small planet on which the human race coexists. Full Story

Ecology awards $1.4 million to prevent flood damage in communities
Skagit County is one of 12 Washington communities that will receive funds from the Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) to prevent flooding. Skagit will receive $200,000 to help pay for a flood-protection study for the Skagit basin. Full Story

Mary Margaret Talbott, 83, passed away Sept. 27, 2009 in Stanwood. She was born to Harry and Agnes Hinton July 1, 1926 in Sedgwick, Kansas. Mary graduated from Sedgwick High School in 1944. She worked with her husband as owners of Stanwood Jewelry, but her most important work was as homemaker and mother. Full Story

Leo E. Wirth, 93, passed away on Sept. 22, 2009. Leo was born in Wisconsin July 6, 1916. He joined the Army in 1942 and fought battles at the Landing of Normandy, northern France and Rhineland. He was awarded The American Campaign Medal, The European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, The Victory Medal and The Bronze Star Medal. Full Story

June 20, 1934 - Sept. 28, 2009
Lee E. Hardebeck passed away Sept. 28, 20o9 with his family by his side at Good Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. Lee was a lifetime resident of Washington state, with most of his years spent in or near the Stanwood area. He and his wife Muriel, married in Oct. 1960 and resided here to raise their three children, Kevin, Wendy and Curtis. Full Story
