The Utsalady Ladies Aid turkey dinner is Sun., Oct. 18, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Menu is turkey, dressing, potatoes and gravy, vegetables, relish plate, hot rolls and an assortment of homemade pies. The Madrona Fire Sirens will meet Wed., Oct. 7 at noon in the Madrona Fire Station, 916 W. Fifth Avenue. Chaplain Chuck Marr from Incident Support will be the guest speaker. Everyone interested is welcome to attend.

Mabana Flames have meeting change

The Mabana Flames will meet Thurs., Oct. 1 at the Mabana Fire Station. Take note: the meeting will now start at 10 a.m. instead of 10:30. The program being presented is a surprise, and afterwards, lunch will be served by members. For newcomers to Camano, the Mabana Flames is the auxiliary that supports volunteer firefighters, and helps provide aid in the event of a disaster. Guests are welcome to attend. Dr. Hoyle brings slide show to chapel

Camano Chapel hosts Dr. Thomas Hoyle, founder of Bible and Science Ministries, this coming weekend. Sat., Oct. 3's topic at 7 p.m., will be "UFOs, aliens and the Bible," Sun., Oct. 4, 9:45 a.m., "Divine Design," a look at 10 fascinating categories of created design from fireflies to penguins. That evening at 6 p.m., will be "Ten top questions about dinosaurs, cavemen and creation!" Each presentation features a live digital slide show and a Q&A time. Work party at state parks, Four Springs

Friends of Camano Island Parks volunteers will be hosting a work party at Camano Island state parks and Four Springs Lake Preserve next week. Meet Tues., Oct. 6, 9:30 a.m. at the Camano Island State Park ranger station. Volunteer lunch provided. Newcomers are welcome to join FOCIP in work party efforts to improve Camano Island parks. Adult flu shot clinics scheduled

The Island County Public Health will have an adult seasonal flu shot clinic at the Camano Senior and Community Center Tues., Oct. 6 and Oct. 13, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is a cost, and Medicare Part B, Medicaid, and Group health will be accepted. The H1N1 flue vaccine will not be available. The flu shot cannot cause the flu; consult with your health care provider if you have questions. Following these clinics, seasonal flu vaccine will be available by appointment at Public Health office locations.

Holiday bazaar vendors needed

The Camano Country Club invites vendors to appear at its annual holiday bazaar Sat., Nov. 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Inside and outside vendors needed, contact Yorlly, 387-1655, or email: camanocountryclub@ toast.net for more information. S creenings scheduled at Camano Clinic

Vitamin D level screening, bone density screening, cholesterol, diabetes and blood pressure screenings are all available Thurs., Oct. 8, 8 to 9:30 a.m., at the Camano Community Health Clinic. For information and cost, call Skagit Valley Hospital 629-6481 or 360-814-2424. No appointment or pre-registration is required. For cholesterol, there is a full lipid profile: 12-14 hour fast required, water and prescribed, medications only, no coffee or tea. No alcohol 24 hours prior. Results include total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose (blood sugar) levels and are mailedin one week. Payment: (cash or check payable to SVH only).

Blessing of the animals event

All two and four footed, finned, scaled or feathered folk are invited to a blessing of the animals on the Feast of St. Francis, Sun., Oct 4, 10 a.m., St. Aidan Episcopal Church, top of Land's Hill on SR 532, Camano. Call church for more information, 629-3969.

CASA auction for homeless critters

CASA will host an auction at the Camano Senior and Community Center Sat., Oct. 3, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., in a benefit effort to find "forever homes" for the island's homeless animals. There will be live and silent auctions, gourmet appetizers, dessert and beverages. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 387-1189 or online, auction.camanoanimalshelter.org.

Fall storytime until October 30

Ready Readers Fall Storytime at Camano Island Library Pilot Project includes stories, songs and crafts for preschoolers and toddlers. Children and families welcome. Fridays, 10:30 a.m., now until Oct. 30; address is 848 N. Sunrise Blvd., phone 387-5150.

V endors wanted for Christmas House

"Christmas House" is to open on Camano Nov. 1, with prime indoor space for 50 or more vendors, all under one roof. Reservations are being taken now, and applications for vendors wanting to join. Deadline for all vendors set up and space availability is Oct. 15, opening set for Oct. 17. Dance lessons include Latin, swing

Learn to dance at the Camano Senior and Community Center— ballroom, Latin, and swing—Thurs. Oct. 8 for five weeks, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sampler class of ballroom, Latin, and swing dances.
