Excessive force lawsuit filed
The daughter of Niles Meservey, of Stanwood, filed a claim against the city of Everett last week related to her father's death. Meservey, 51, was shot by an Everett Police officer June 10. Full Story

Once upon a time, Stanwood had three waterfront hotels, two telephone companies and one Folly Theater. Clipboards in hand, Stanwood Middle School sixthgraders explored Stanwood last week. A thrill to see take shape
It's been four years since Bruce Agnew, director of Discovery Institute's Cascadia Project, presented concepts for rail service and a train station to the Stanwood City Council. It was all part of a regional train system proposed for the Northwestern portion of the state called the Cascadia Project. Full Story

AARON JOHN MARQUIS
JAN. 7, 1973 - SEPT. 18, 2009
Aaron John Marquis, 36, passed away peacefully at Madigan Army Medical Center in Fort Lewis Sept. 18, 2009. Aaron was born on Jan. 7, 1973 in Millinocket, Maine. Following his graduation from Stearns High School in 1991 he enlisted in the United States Navy and began an 18-year career during which time he traveled to many diverse ports of call and duty stations. Guenther O. Fortmann
1922-2009
Guenther O. Fortmann was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1922 and emmigrated to Washington state in 1950. He worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad and retired from the F.A.A. He also enjoyed living in Alaska and Idaho, but his final home was on Camano Island. He loved skiing, hiking and anything outdoors. Full Story

A memorial service for Sheila Ferguson begins 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 27201 99th Ave. NW in Stanwood. Sheila died Aug. 28 at Josephine Sunset Home. The service will be conducted by Pastor Mark Bankson. Full Story
