Nearly half of septic tanks inspected needed pumping
Island County is examining the results of the first year of required septic inspections in its effort to decrease the impact on public health and Puget Sound. The deadline for pressurized systems passed July 1. Conventional gravity systems must be inspected by July 1, 2010. Full Story
Mom lets stranger take child, eight vehicles prowled
Island County Sheriff's deputies on Camano Island recently responded to the following: • A 30-year-old Everett woman is suspected of child abandonment after she allowed a 25-year-old Camano woman to take her 3-year-old son home after meeting the woman in line at a drug treatment clinic in Everett. Commissioners seek volunteers for housing authority
The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill four positions on the Island County Housing Advisory Board. One applicant is sought to complete an existing term to expire June 16, 2010 and must represent the Island County Housing Authority. Full Story
Island County lifts burn ban
The outdoor burn ban was lifted for all of the unincorporated areas of Island County as of 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21. Full Story
Local area artists at EvCC
An art show opening this week at Everett Community College, "Cascadia: Born From Nature," features three artists from Stanwood and Camano Island. Presented in the Russell Day Gallery through Oct. 30, a reception is planned from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 25 and the artists will speak about their work in an artist presentation and discussion at 3 p.m., Oct. 15.
