Etiquette classes for children
The class is called "Pass the peas please." and "We will make learning manners fun!" say instructors. The second class is Sat., Oct. 3, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. and again, 1 - 4 p.m. Your child will take with them basic table manners, the power of "please" and "thank you," introducing friends, learning to shake hands, proper posture, how to be a good guest and host, cellular and texting etiquette, when to remove your hat, thank you notes, sportsmanship and party etiquette.
H istorical society honors volunteers
The Stanwood Area Historical Society would like to thank all those who volunteered their time during the past year, with a 6 p.m. barbecue Thurs., Sept. 24 at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center. Volunteers have donated countless hours at the museum, the D.O. Pearson House, and in support of many activities of the society. Following the barbecue, there will be a 7 p.m., general meeting, the main business election of officers for the coming year. All interested community members are invited to attend.

Stanwood/Camano Little League's annual board member nominations/ elections meeting will be Fri., Sept. 25, 6 p.m. at the Stanwood PUD building. Tickets on sale now for Oktoberfest
Fri., Oct. 2, an Oktoberfest celebration will be held at the Stanwood Community and Senior Center, 6 to 8 p.m., with live music by Hugo's Accordion Band. Tickets are on sale now at the center. This popular German fest will have music, dancing and great food: Bratwurst, sauerkraut, sweet and sour red cabbage, German potato salad, green beans, brotchen roll and dessert.

Volunteers needed at Davis Place
Davis Place, an after school destination for teens, offers activities, classes and special events for youth ages 11 to 18. "We are seeking fun, energetic, adult volunteers who enjoy working with teens," said a spokesperson. Davis Place is open Monday/Wednesday afternoons 2 to 6 p.m., for drop-in, and Tuesdays/Thursdays for scheduled classes. DAV mobile office open - Saturday
The nonprofit D-A-V and the Harley-Davidson Foundation have teamed up to offer help to veterans who are unsure about benefits and services. The DAV Mobile Service Office will be at Harley- Davidson of Bellingham, 1419 North State St., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat., Sept. 26, to personally provide the best counseling and claim filing assistance available. C ancer survivors celebration Sunday
The American Cancer Society Everett is sponsoring a 5K walk, with no registration fees and no minimum fund raising required to participate, all ages are welcome. Every cent raised will go to education, advocacy, and research (40 percent), and 60 percent goes to help fund the Breast and Cervical Health Program in Snohomish County and in Washington state. The walk will be held at Everett Legion Memorial Park Sun., Sept. 27, 10 a.m. so we can award them with a Breast Cancer Survivor Medal."
