Spartan soccer club loses 3-1
Senior forward Riley Henderson (front) battles with an Everett defender during last week's WesCo season-opener. Stanwood's booters (0- 1 in league and overall) managed to enter halftime knotted 1-1 with Everett's defending 2008 3A state champions last Wednesday.
But the visiting Seagulls returned to the pitch and rallied behind Annie Sittauer's second and third goals of the night to pull away for a 3-1 girls' soccer victory.
The Sparts actually outshot Everett 7-6 in the initial 40 minutes of play of this, their season opener, scoring in the 28th minute on a just-outside-the-box shot by junior forward Brandi Doggett that slipped by the Gull keeper.
The locals had nearly tallied a minute earlier on a seemingly-destined-toscore kick by senior midfielder/ forward Riley Henderson.
A spectacular save by the Everett goalie thwarted Henderson's attempt however.
