College grad completes 2,627-mile Pacific Crest trail this week

Nick Brown, 24, formerly of Camano Island, was looking for a challenge after graduating from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2007 where he earned a degree in theology. Cancer Care Rally set for Tuesday The Camaloch Ladies Golf Club is holding its annual Cancer Care Rally Tues., Sept. 22, at Camaloch Golf Course. The day begins with a 7:30 a.m. obstacle putting green competition, followed by a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Field day events are planned, such as longest drives, closest to the pin and closest to the line. State officials urge insurers to prepare for H1N1 (swine flu)
Washington's top insurance and health officials are urging health insurers to ensure that as many Washingtonians as possible have access to H1N1 vaccine and treatment. "So far, this flu has proven less virulent than initially feared," said Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler. "But we want insurers to be fully prepared for what looks to be a challenging flu season. Washington state receives $1.2 million for health insurance
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has announced $1.2 million in a grant to support the expansion of health care coverage for Washington's uninsured populations. The grant is funded under the new State Health Access Program (SHAP), an outgrowth of the agency's State Planning Grant program that operated from 2000- 2007. Full Story

Jeanette Ione (Heacock) Kingsley, 56, of Camano Island, passed away Aug. 29, 2009 from complications of multiple sclerosis. She was surrounded by her loving family. Jeanette was born Feb. 19, 1953 in Bremerton to Howard and Vonda (Senn) Heacock. Full Story
ANNABELLE HAATVEIT
Annabelle Haatveit, 85, of Stanwood, passed away on Sept. 5, 2009. She was born in Stanwood where she lived her entire life. Annabelle married Richard Haatveit Nov. 18, 1950. She loved fishing, camping, traveling in their motor home and bowling. Full Story
