Teacher union, district sign contract
Teachers in the Stanwood Camano School District started the school year with a new contract last week. The school board unanimously approved the district's negotiated contract with the Stanwood-Camano Education Association, the union that represents the district's certificated staff. Full Story
New postmaster sees untapped potential in Stanwood
Under the watchful eye of a Ben Franklin portrait, Scott Harsh, Stanwood's newly appointed postmaster, is carrying on a proud tradition. Dwayne Lane puts Island Crossing location on hold
Dwayne Lane's is no longer located in Arlington, for now. General Motors notified the company in May that it would be one of the 2,400 planned franchise closures across the state, said Tom Lane, Dwayne Lane's president. The change puts plans for a car dealership at Island Crossing on hold. Full Story
Utility bill to go up for businesses
Businesses will notice slightly higher utility bills starting in October, whereas residential customers will not see much of a change. The Snohomish County Public Utility District (PUD) Commission approved a rate increase for commercial and industrial customers last week. Full Story
Stanwood FFA and 4-H clubs bring home many blues from Monroe Fair
The Evergreen State Fair at Monroe ended on Labor Day, and the results of judging in FFA, 4-H and open class are rolling in. Stanwood Future Farmers of America did itself proud with firsts in tractor driving, agriculture mechanics, food science, the dairy foods career development event and natural resources contest. Prowlers collared and theft continues
Island County Sheriff's deputies on Camano Island responded to the following recently: • Three young men were cited for prowling vehicles on Cavalero Road Aug. 18. They were found with tools allegedly used to break into cars. Full Story
Burn ban lifted, camp fires allowed, no debris
As of 8 a.m. Sept, 4, recreational fires are now allowed in Island County, according to Island County Fire Marshal Sheriff Mark C. Brown. No outdoor burning of debris is allowed however, even with a permit, Brown announced. Full Story
