Booster Club kicks off with tailgate party

The first home football game is this coming Fri., Sept. 4 and Stanwood High School Booster Club encourages all students' families and community members to join up and join in for an awesome tailgate dinner before the game.

The Family Booster Club membership allows your whole family free admission to all home athletic competitions for the school year. It's easy to join, a membership table will be set up at all volleyball, soccer and football games this fall so you can join before you go in.

The Stanwood AAAA Booster Club was created in 1987. The group's mission is to promote enthusiasm as well as to encourage and provide support for schoolsponsored academics, activities, athletics and arts at Stanwood High School.

The Booster Club supports academics by granting nine $500 scholarships each spring to graduating seniors who are continuing on in higher education.

The club also sponsors competitive teams such as the FBLA, chess, Hi-Q, science, TSA, FFA, agriculture mechanics, Knowledge Bowl, sports medicine and History Day teams.

They provide an S.A.T. test prep class as well.

Some of the activities supported by the Booster Club include freshman orientation, various ASB activities, the Valentine's Day Ice Cream Social, L.I.N.K. crew, staff appreciation dinner and school clubs.

The Stanwood AAAA Booster Club promotes high school athletics by supporting coaches' clinics and the scholar athlete awards.

In addition they sell the sports passes and provide tailgate parties prior to football games and other athletic events.

They sponsor summer sports camps and Sports Physical Day for all interested children in the community and Parents' Sports Night.

When it comes to the arts, the Booster Club supports the jazz ensemble, drama productions, other choir, band, theater and drama activities and competitions.

Each Booster Club member receives one complimentary pass to any school play.

Last year the Booster Club prepared and sent over 200 goody bags filled with food with SHS students as they traveled to their state level competitions.

More than 85 percent of these were for competitive clubs and academic teams.

They also supported two academic teams competing at the national level: FFA/ Ag Sales and FBLA.

Last year there were 300 members of the Stanwood AAAA Booster Club.

This year the annual membership fee without a sports pass is $40. Membership including a sports pass is $60 for seniors, $70 for individuals and $120 for families.

It gives members free admission to all home sports events, your name on the Booster Wall, $1 off away league games and a free ticket to a SHS drama production. There is also a lifetime membership that costs $300 per family. It does not include a sports pass, but reduces the annual sports-pass fee to half price.

The proceeds from the lifetime membership, along with other support received from contributions such as the Boeing Community Fund, go to the Scholarship Endowment Fund.

All Booster Club members are invited and encouraged to attend the monthly meetings in the Stanwood- Camano School District office conference room at 7 a.m. the first Friday of each month, beginning in October. It's more fun to be involved!

Membership forms can be picked up at SHS or by calling Traci Smith at 629- 9497.

For information call Jeanette Grisham at 629- 2705.
