How to be a responsible dog owner
Cloud's Canine, a pet training and boarding facility on Camano Island, is participating in the American Kennel Club (AKC) Responsible Dog Ownership Days in September.
Each year, the AKC calls on its 5,000 affiliated dog clubs and other U.S. pet-related organizations from around the country to participate in the nationwide initiative.
The effort educates the public about the importance of being a responsible dog owner and celebrates the deep bond between humans and canine companions.
"According to an AKC survey, 99 percent of dog owners have a dog because of the love and companionship they provide," said AKC spokeswoman Lisa Peterson. "Dogs have become increasingly important in our lives and the best way to return the love of your dog is to be a responsible owner."
"AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Days are aimed at helping owners keep their canine companions happy and living harmoniously in their communities," she added.
Cloud's Canine's celebration will include a coloring contest for children that promotes responsible pet ownership with prizes awarded for free training classes, boarding and grooming services.
Children may pick up a coloring sheet at Cloud's Canine or area stores.
For those who are interested in learning training and grooming tips from the pros or need help selecting the right breed for their newest family addition, Cloud's Canine will be at various stores on Saturdays to answer your questions.
Cloud's Canine is also offering $10 off the tuition of any group obediencetraining course for puppies to adult dogs and new sixweek courses with one-hour group classes will start Monday evening, Sept. 14, at the Camano Senior and Community Center.
