Island County Commissioner John Dean will hold a community meeting Thurs., Sept 10, 6 - 7:30 p.m., to discuss the county's pending Conservation Futures Funds application, as well as the purchase of the former Hieb property, located at 878 S. West Camano Dr. The meeting will be held at the Camano Multi-purpose Center, 141 N. East Camano Dr. (just north of the County Annex building) and is open to the general public. The county previously held a public meeting of the Conservation Futures Fund's Community Advisory Board June 4, at which time members of the public provided comment about the application. In response, the Community Advisory Board recommended the Board of Island County Commissioners hold a community meeting prior to their issuing a recommendation regarding the application for Conservation Futures Funds. Concerned with the possibility of confusion regarding the application, Dean requested that a community meeting be held to further discuss the county's acquisition of the property and the Conservation Futures Fund process. County staff will provide a short presentation on the details of the application and be available to answer any questions from neighbors of the property or other community members. The meeting may also include discussion on the current and potential futures uses of the site.
