Scout project harvests food and community
When Boy Scout John Bartlett began thinking about earning his Eagle Scout rank, he wanted to do something that could benefit others. Director fired for alleged bad behavior
The Snohomish County planning director was fired recently after a woman claimed that he exposed himself to her during a golf tournament. On July 9, the county received a letter from the woman concerning the incident. The investigation into the allegations began that day, said Christopher Schwarzen, spokesman for County Executive Aaron Reardon. Full Story
Alternative hunting site remains to be determined
The frustration in the packed room was palpable. Both area hunters and Washington state Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) employees expressed their disgruntlement with the lack of an alternative pheasant release, as only a month remains to the start of the hunting season. Full Story
Fishing's all about humpies
Folks of all ages are enjoying the humpies fishery now in areas 8.1 and 8.2, with Kayak Point, Humpy Hollow and the west side of Camano Head bagging the most limits. Kayak Point success is found using the pink Buzz Bomb, Pink/White Wobblers, squid w/jighead or trolling flasher/squid combos. Full Story

Alf L. Danielson passed away peacefully Aug. 23, 2009 in his life-long family home where he was born Oct. 17, 1916 to Victor and Karin Danielson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Russell, Mabel (his wife of 49 years), and his daughter Kathleen. Full Story

John Martin Eilertsen, 92, of Coal Harbour, British Columbia, died Aug. 6 at the Cumberland Lodge Rest Home in Courtenay on Vancouver Island. He was born Nov. 18, 1916 in Ellensburg, to Jack and Dot Eilertsen. In the early 1930s the family moved to Stanwood to open the Eilertsen Lumberyard. John worked with his father in the lumberyard and had a small logging operation. Full Story

Sheila M. Ferguson was born July 10, 1935 in Aberdeen, Wash., to John and Elsie Campbell. She passed away Aug. 28, 2009 at the Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Full Story
