An assortment of salmon caught
Crabbing in Areas 8.1 and 8.2 is still going strong for folks setting pots in deeper waters. Expect fewer crab and not the monster sizes from earlier in the season at about 80 feet. Coho are being caught in Saratoga Passage. Multiple catches have been reported from the state park and Madrona Beaches. Green/Pearl or Army Issue Buzz Bombs seem to be working well. Full Story
Second place
The 11U Stanwood-Camano Cal Ripken Baseball Team won second place in the state tournament in Wenatchee last month. Stanwood all-star players are: Chase Tiffany, Daylin McDonald, Cameron Nix, Collin McKenzie, Trey Tiffany, Ryen Verbarendse, Ben O'Brien, Isaac Olson, Brayden Powell, Bryan Strachan, Kole Johnson and Sam Noonchester. The head coach is Tracy Tiffany with assistant coaches, David McKenzie and Mike O'Brien. The team now qualifies for the regional tournament in Medford, Ore. Full Story

HOLE IN ONE Art Hatch III hit a hole in one at Camaloch Golf Course Sunday, Aug. 16. He hit 140 yards with a 9 iron in hole 2. Kayak Ladies Golf Club Kayak Point Ladies Golf Club competed Aug. 13 in a sub par 1 hole each 9 and Shelly Rubertino scored 64, Eva Hamilton scored 66 in the first slight, and in the second flight, Lois Anderson scored 69. Author of the Lystedt law to speak Aug. 26
Stanwood High School's athletic department will present Dr. Stan Herring, medical director of The Spine Center at Harborview Medical Center, who wrote the Lystedt law to provide information on the recognition and management of sports concussions, with a follow up question and answer session.
