Rep. Larsen is merely Obama's reform puppet
Dear Editor: I was dismayed at the town hall meeting conducted by Congressman Larsen. He was acting more like a stand up comic than a politician interested in what his constituents had to say. He was evasive on questions and did little to shake my view of him as an Obama puppet. Full Story
Diamond Knot is a real jewel
Dear Editor: I wanted to write to the community to let you in on a well-kept secret! My husband and I wanted to go out for dinner but wanted to stay local. Full Story
Expand eligibility of Medicare
Dear Editor: As a nation, we are incapable of having a rational discussion on health care financing. So why not simply expand Medicare? We could start slowly, perhaps including 60 plus year olds, then 55 plus, and so on, until everyone is eligible to sign on. Full Story
Contact executive to assure FCCs are banned
Dear Editor: The fully contained communities concept went to the county council for a vote and to our good fortune the council voted them out! I want to thank council chair Mike Cooper, and councilmen Dave Somers and Brian Sullivan for their votes. Full Story
Republicans don't want to rush reform
Dear Editor: One of your writers has made the sweeping generalization that Democrats are more Christian because they worry about people who don't have health insurance and Republicans put Hitler mustaches on pictures of the president. Full Story
Corrected figures still equal too much money
Dear Editor: Thank you for publishing my letter concerning the potential income the pending levy increase would give Camano Fire District 1. You have provided an insight to the controversy that may not otherwise have been brought to light. Full Story
Don't be fooled by Obama's ways
Dear Editor: In the early part of Genesis 4, after killing his brother, Cain says to God, as he or his tell-a-prompter tried to deflect God's scrutiny, "Am I my brother's keeper?" Obama, or his clever focus group's tested tell-aprompter attempting to fool the people one more time and kill off capitalism, tells everyone, "You are your brother's keeper. Full Story
Same botched engineering of detour route
Dear Editor: A couple of years ago, during a brilliant concrete pouring incident, Stanwood's main sewer line got absolutely plugged with tons of concrete. At the time, I worried that whoever was responsible might find it difficult to locate future employment in the Stanwood area. Full Story
Love Camano, but it needs more stores, live music
Dear Editor: I love living on Camano Island and enjoy the people I meet along the way. Even a trip to the dump is an adventure in itself. You are greeted with a smile, just what I need. Everyone is so willing to help, and I leave with a feeling of happiness, and besides, I am ready to collect the garbage for another three weeks. Full Story
See a need, get it done
Dear Editor: I would like to respond to Mr. Rob Freedman's letter on improving our community. I agree that lack of funds doesn't have to be a roadblock preventing us from being a vibrant and engaged community. We need to stop thinking "what can my government do for me" and get back to a "can do" attitude. Full Story
Where are the Christian Dems?
Dear Editor: This is in answer to the letter from Judith Buczek, claiming that Democrats are more Christian than Republicans. As a conservative Catholic and Republican, I believe not only in social justice for the poor but also for those not yet delivered - those still in their mothers' wombs. Full Story
Full bus from Stanwood to downtown Seattle
Dear Editor: I agree with many of the points made in a letter last week about the importance of public transit to a healthy community. I would like to correct one, though. Shopping in Burlington, Stanwood or Arlington does not in any way support Sound Transit, whose taxing district goes from Everett to south of Tacoma. Full Story
Government health care will ruin medical system
Dear Editor: I would like to know why things are so bad with our present health care system? Where are the terrible insurance companies? Where are the awful, greedy doctors? Where are the heartless hospitals? In all my personal experience —uninsured, insured, sick, well — I have never come in contact with even one. Full Story
Health care reform bill unacceptable
Dear Editor: While in Stanwood, Rep. Larsen asked to hear from people regarding health care. The cleverly worded question he asked was, "If you think the status quo is acceptable then tell me why or if you think it is unacceptable, then tell me why. Full Story
