Prolific petunias
Main Street is in bloom with hanging baskets full of colorful petunias attached to light poles along 271st Avenue NW. Stanwood Mayor Dianne White said she believes the flowers enrich the look of the downtown area. "Last year we took them down in the middle of September and we hope to keep these going just as long," said White. City workers water the baskets six days a week, Monday through Saturday in the morning, she said. The flowers are fertilized with Tracite purchased from Wolfkill. "I highly recommend it for hanging baskets as it only takes a little every day and the flowers seem to love it," White said. Full Story

Sheriff deputies track armed man
Island County Sheriff's Office deputies conducted a manhunt on Camano Island last Tuesday morning. According to Detective Mark Plumberg a call came in to 911 dispatchers about an unidentified man with a shotgun on a neighbor's property. Full Story

Early deadlines
