Roaming Artists Bob Paczkowski's "Scavenger Hunt" will be raffled at the Roaming Artists Art Show 10 a.m. -  4 p.m. Sept 5 and 6 at the Camano Center, 141 N. East Camano Dr., Camano Island. He won the people's choice award at the 2008 show. The Evergreen State Fair runs Aug. 27 through Sept. 7 at the Monroe Fairgrounds. The classic, all-American experience includes events like bubble blowing and egg toss contests, the Clydesdale show and Draft Horse & Mule Extravaganza, and lots of youth showing their animals and free entertainment by popular characters like JP Patches, Stan Boreson, Ciscoe Morris and Ed Hume, Gerry Andal and Danny Vernon's Illusions of Elvis. Each day has a different theme, with Arts Day on Aug. 28 and Green Day on Aug. 29, when there is also a parade in downtown Monroe. There's an ice carving competition on Aug. 30 and Aug. 31 is Senior Citizens' Day. Tickets are available at all Bartell Drug stores and QFCs in Snohomish County.

Presented by the Arlington Arts Council with financial assistance from a city of Arlington's lodging tax grant, proceeds will be used for public art in Arlington and for more events at the BPAC. 'Life Savers'

Jerry Andal will provide entertainment at "Lifesavers Open House," honoring men and women in local police, fire and rescue departments whose services are vital to the community. A Round to Remember

Alzheimer Society of Washington presents 18 holes of fun and competition in a 4-player scramble format at Dakota Creek Golf & Country Club, 3258 Haynie Road, in Custer, just north of Bellingham this Saturday, Aug. 29. Followed with barbecue and raffle, the cost is $60 per player and $240 per "Unforgettable Foursome" including a cart.

Registration begins 7:15 a.m. and the game gets a 8 a.m. "shotgun" start. Illustrating NASA

One of the first eight artists chosen by NASA in 1962 to document the American space program's Project Mercury, Paul Calle continued to illustrate space exploration for 40 years. The artist and his son Chris Calle will be at the Museum of Flight's William M. Allen Theater 2 p.m. Aug. 29 to talk about NASA art and the Apollo missions. The presentation draws from Calle's new book, "Celebrating Apollo 11 - The Artwork of Paul Calle." The Museum of Flight is located on Boeing Field at 9404 E. Beijing puppet theater

The state's Folk Arts in the Parks presents the Beijing rod-puppet theater, Dragon Art Studio at Peace Arch State Park in Blaine 2 p.m., Aug. 30. Based in Portland, this internationally acclaimed puppet theater is the only professional Beijing rod puppet theater in North America. Puppeteers Yuqin Wang and Zhengli Xu were trained in China at the Beijing Puppet Theater and the Beijing Opera School and came to the United States in 1996,when they performed at the Atlanta Olympics and their daughter Brenda Xu is the third member of the troupe. Bumbershoot

Seattle's Music & Arts Festival, the 39th annual Bumbershoot, is presented by Samsung Mobile over Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 5 - 7, this year. The three-day urban festival includes Hey Marseilles, Telekinesis, Gang Gang Dance, Os Mutantes, Elvis Perkins in Dearland, on Sept. 5; Common Market, Sera Cahoone, Vivian Girls, and Raphael Saadiq on Sept. 6 and on Sept. 7, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, The Cave Singers, Akron/ Family, Vieux Farka Touré, Metric, as well as The Black Eyed Peas and Sheryl Crow among hundreds of acts.

Wild Buffalo

Country legend David Allan Coe will perform at the Wild Buffalo House of Music in Bellingham Sunday, Sept. 6 and tickets can be purchased online at www. wildbuffalo.net. Other acts scheduled this month include The Growers and rock, pop and jam by Shotty on Aug. 27; D12 and Dyme Def on Aug. 28. Lopez Island Golf

Tournament & Cruise

Boaters are invited to motor on up to Lopez for the Lopez Island Golf Tournament & Cruise Sept. 4-7, presented by Wheel and Keel. Saturday, Sept. 5 is open for exploring town with a dock party in the afternoon, and the golf tournament is planned for Sunday, Sept. 6, starting at 9 a.m. Shuttles from the marina will provide transportation to the golf course before 8:30 a.m.

Seahawks shuttle

The Airporter Shuttle of Bellair Charters is offering round-trip transportation to all Seattle Seahawks games at Qwest Field this fall, in addition to the ongoing Seattle Mariners and Sounders shuttles. Art walk in Everett

A studio walk from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, features a tour of five temporary artist spaces in downtown Everett, where empty storefronts are being used as studios through Sept. 30. Movies at the Lincoln

"Away We Go" by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes is presented at the Lincoln Theater in Mount Vernon Sept. 4-7 and "Food Inc.," is presented Sept. 11, 13-15.

In "Food, Inc." filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA.

Democrats host BBQ

Camano Island's sixth annual Labor Day barbecue is 1 - 5 p.m. Mon. Sept. 7 at the Oddfellows Park, 96 S. Camano Ridge Rd. Quilt Fest

Art at the Plant Farm

The second annual Art at the Plant Farm is 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sept. 12 and 13 at the Smokey Point Plant Farm in Smokey Point. Presented by the Arlington Arts Council, artists from Snohomish, Island and Skagit counties will feature more than 30 artists working in a variety of media, from blown glass and wood work, jewelry, pottery and sculpture to photography, watercolor, acrylics, oils, pastels and drawings.

Maria Friberg

The Nordic Heritage Museum presents photographs by the celebrated Swedish photographer and video artist Maria Friberg Sept. 18 through Nov. 15, with a chance to meet the artist on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 17.

Art at Harvest Jubilee

Along with an extensive tour of Stanwood area farms, the Harvest Jubilee on Sept. 19, will also include an art show, "Farms, Fields & Foliage," at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sept. 19 and 20.

Stanwood Community & Senior Center offers a pancake breakfast and there will be dancing there from 7 -10 p.m. with Camano Junction offering swing music. For those who prefer country music, Dancing in the Dirt is offered by People Helping Horses.

Artist Trust is offering a professional development seminar for artists Sept. 19- 20. The "I Am An Artist" workshop offers essential resources, funding opportunities, peer-to-peer evaluation, networking, and an extra special presentation on all the opportunities from 4Culture.

Calls for proposals

The historic seaport of Port Townsend has issued a call to Washington state artists to create an art project for its revitalized waterfront, scheduled for completion in 2010. The Port Townsend Arts Commission is encouraging a broad interpretation of creativity to augment the exciting new main street area along Water Street from the recently constructed Northwest Maritime Center at Point Hudson to Quincy Street.

Proposals may be a specific art piece or enhance existing structures. Included in the new waterfront are an esplanade, a visitor plaza, a performance space, and a small park with playground and beach access with views of the bay and the mountains. Port Townsend is one of only three Victorian seaport communities listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The budget for art is $70,000, allocated from the city's Percent for the Arts program. It includes amounts for design, materials, fabrication and installation costs. Everett Symphony

Global Spectrum at the Comcast Arena at Everett is proud to announce a partnership with the Everett Symphony to support arts in the community. Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble
