Prolific petunias
Main Street is in bloom with hanging baskets full of colorful petunias attached to light poles along 271st Avenue NW. Stanwood Mayor Dianne White said she believes the flowers enrich the look of the downtown area. "Last year we took them down in the middle of September and we hope to keep these going just as long," said White. City workers water the baskets six days a week, Monday through Saturday in the morning, she said. The flowers are fertilized with Tracite purchased from Wolfkill. "I highly recommend it for hanging baskets as it only takes a little every day and the flowers seem to love it," White said. Full Story

PAMELA ANN SMITH
Pamela Ann Smith, 54, of Stanwood, passed away Aug. 14, 2009 after a short battle with cancer. Pam was born on Sept. 27, 1954, in Bellevue. She graduated from Sammamish High School in 1972. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Jacqueline Langner. Full Story
