Happy 30th!
Jackie and Ken Matthias are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary Aug. 18. The invitations they sent out in 1979 said, "We're getting married! Come see the trees, feel the breeze. And share our special day." "And what a glorious, rainy day it was on Whidbey Island," say the couple. They spent their honeymoon camping along the coast and celebrating at Disneyland. Saunders in San Francisco
Helen Saunders, a retired Stanwood teacher, had her first gallery opening at The Artists Alley Gallery, at 863 Mission St. in San Francisco Aug. 8. Eleven of Saunders' abstract mixed-media paintings are on display in the gallery through October. The gallery hosted an afternoon event to celebrate her work and the artist was on hand to answer questions about her process. Saunders, taught in the Stanwood schools for 13 years. Her work will be on display at the fine art show during the Harvest Festival Jubilee Sept. 19 and 20 at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center in Stanwood. Rita, a 1-year-old Siamese mix, was one of 40 cats rescued in July from a hoarding situation in Lynnwood.
