Fish Report
Aug. 6 fish report: The pinks are in
In areas 8.1 and 8.2, anglers have fishing opportunities from either the beach or by boat. Saratoga Passage has been the hottest side of the island. Success reported with Army issue buzz bombs, small jigs and krocodiles. Trolling? Use the white flasher with pink squid.
Coho are still making their way in but we have seen a five-pound plus fish. Way to go, Pat! Green Spatterback squids, Army Truck patterns and glow white/ Mother of Pearl are great options.
Crabbing is still going strong in the deeper waters at about 60 to 80 feet. Turkey legs and salmon parts are the most productive bait, but coonstripe shrimp have also been filling local pots. Pellets with ocean whitefish in tuna (cat food) is also great bait for these little guys.
Poachers are still a problem, so keep your pots in view.
In area 9, there are reports of 29-34 pound chinook from midchannel and Point No Point. Fish up from the bottom approximately 10 feet, using Cop Car or Blue Spatterback patterns. The new Hotspot Clear UV Jelly Crush flasher has provided a good assist.
Note that areas 5 and 6 are closed nine days early for chinook retention.
Other fishing
• The Lake Wenatchee opening for sockeye was a huge success. Locals fishing over there brought in their limits within a couple of hours. Those who had plenty of patience while waiting to launch boats were rewarded.
• Water temperatures in most lakes are approaching 80 degrees in the upper 30 feet so fishing for trout means going very deep. Try fishing at 40 plus feet with nightcrawlers or powerbait.
