SR 532 bridge to temporarily close
Expect delays of an hour or more
Crews from Penhall Company of Seattle will close SR 532 to rebuild the bridge deck at 84th Avenue this weekend, Aug. 14 - 17.
The project is not part of the SR 532 corridor improvements, and will take roughly three weeks to complete, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Work on the bridge began last Monday with weeknight single-lane closures.
The weekend closure will start at 7 p.m. Fri., Aug. 14, and end at 5 a.m. Mon., Aug. 17.
Crews will come back the week of Aug. 24 to stripe and complete minor cleanup work. Drivers should expect several weeknight, single-lane closures.
The 20,000 drivers who use this route daily should expect to face delays during the weekend closure. Delays of an hour or more are possible. Drivers should avoid using SR 532 during the peak hours on Saturday and Sunday.
WSDOT worked closely with the city of Stanwood, local law enforcement and emergency services to provide the safest route for drivers during the closure. Police will be directing traffic from 88th Ave. NW south of SR 532, under the bridge on Florence Road to Cedarhome Drive NW, and back to SR 532 via Pioneer Highway.
The project includes rebuilding expansion joints, smoothing and repairing the deck, and paving the bridge with a special, longer-lasting concrete.
WSDOT has also announced a two-week closure of the Starbird I-5 exit 218 from Aug. 4-17.
