Old penny is just fine
Dear Editor:
The other day, a young lady at the cash register gave me back change and said, "Isn't the new penny pretty? It has Lincoln on the back, fishing and reading a book." Well, without my glasses I couldn't tell if that is actually what Lincoln was doing, or, if it was Lincoln.
But, it made me think about the cost of that pretty penny. During times such as these, where every penny counts, why is our government wasting money just to give our baby coin a facelift? What is the bloated fees the government pays out to have this coin designed, the mold created, and minted? I ask you, is this the time? How many of our old pennies did we have to dole out in order to admire the new ones? Finally, I don't recall anybody asking me or my neighbor if we wanted to buy a new penny. I would have said, "No thank you, I can't afford it right now. I like our old coin just fine."
