Vote yes on CIFR fire/EMS levies
Dear Editor
I am writing in regards to the fire department levy that is coming up on the ballot Aug. 18.
With the poor economy, we are all hesitant to vote for anything that would increase our taxes. However, some people do not realize that the money generated by a levy does not end up in Olympia.
In the 50 plus years my husband and I were married, we never had a need to call the fire department for anything until this year.
My husband was very ill the first part of the year and it was necessary for me to call 911 three different times.
The dispatcher got my name and address, my husband's condition, told me things I should do for him, and then asked if the front door was unlocked.
This nice lady tried to keep me calm as possible while help was on the way.
Each time the paramedics came, I found them to be very professional and well trained, as well as very compassionate. Their equipment was excellent and they treated my husband with respect and dignity, which I appreciated very much. They were wonderful to explain what they were doing for him.
We always hope that we will never have an emergency, but if that emergency ever arises, we can be assured that our firefighters will respond quickly and professionally.
I urge you to vote in favor of the fire department levy. They need and deserve our support.
