No on transit and higher taxes now

Dear Editor:

Once again we are being asked to bail out someone else. Where will it end? When will common sense come into play? When we have a county that appropriates our tax dollars to the arts over appropriating money to our fire and police, I'd say we have a priority issue.

I have never known a piece of art to put out a fire or catch a thief.

Now we have our transit system in trouble, so the first thing they want to do is bleed the good people of Island County in one of the worst recessions of our time.

These buses are virtually empty. Approximately 80 percent of people in Island County don't ride the bus, yet we pay taxes for it.

I don't think I have ever seen more than five people on the bus at one time. Sometimes they are rolling around the island empty. Not many people know that there is no direct fee to ride the bus. It's all funded by our taxes.

I would also like to know, who paid for all the "vote yes on transit" signs?

Signs like that are not cheap. Is this just another example of how the county is wasteful of taxpayer's hardearned money?

It's also come to light that intimidation has been used against some businesses that do not support a tax increase.

We have had enough government treating us like our hard-earned money is not ours, it's theirs to take.

Island Transit, here is a concept, why don't you start charging your riders, find places to cut back, and cut your schedule?

You will reduce toxic emissions and save some green by going green.
