Bridget Budbill, a second-year law student at the University of Oregon, will discuss war crimes, human rights and international law at the Camano Multipurpose Building, 141 E. Camano Dr. starting at 7 p.m., Wed., Aug. 12. Budbill recently returned from studying international human rights law and litigation in the Netherlands, where she attended sessions of the Special Court for Sierra Leone. The event is sponsored by the Camano Island Democrats.

Camano View Dash, a 10K and 5K run/walk starts 9 a.m. Sat., Aug. 29 at Utsalady Elementary School, 608 Arrowhead Rd. Sponsored by John L. Scott Real Estate, proceeds will fund the TeamFitness Dayna Fure Scholarship and contribute to the Stanwood High School Boys and Girls Swim Team. Dayna was a cross-country athlete whose life tragically ended in 2004. Register at any TeamFitness location, or e-mail amya@teamfitness. info. TeamFitness will provide free childcare and youth activities. Check in time is 8 a.m. at the school gym, where racers will have access to restrooms and space for pre-stretch and warm up. Art for Kids, camp sessions added
Summer Art Camp is adding more sessions this month. John Delzell (formerly Muhler) and his wife, Jenna, are offering a four-day camp session for young artists ages 7 - 17 at John's studio at 2177 Highland Dr. on Camano Island. Working in mixed media, artists will experience "plein air" acrylic painting and drawing, colored pencil projects, wire and clay sculpture, and "Wings of All Things," a wooden mobile project. Sessions run Mon-Thurs, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 17-20 and Aug. 24-27. To register or for information, call 387-2251, or e-mail john@johndelzellart.com.
Mark calendars for September auction
The 2009 gala auction for the Camano Senior and Community Center is set for Sat., Sept. 26. Auction items include a Holland America seven-day cruise, vacations in Palm Springs and Mexico, scrapbooking and stamping supplies, and art donated by many local artists. This year's dinner will feature wild king salmon, filet mignon medallions or roasted vegetable pastry in chevre cream, beverages and dessert. To purchase tickets or a table, contact the center at 387-0222. If you would like to donate an item for the auction, contact Karla Jacks at the center. The auction is sponsored by Whidbey Island Bank.

The Board of Island County Commissioners is accepting applications for its 2010 lodging tax grant program. Deadline is Aug. 31; Applications for projects that attract tourism must be in the com- missioners office by 4:30 p.m. Applications sent by fax or e-mail will not be accepted. Vendors wanted at Camano Commons
Antique vendors, specialty gift items, and local artist vendors are wanted at Camano Commons every Sunday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Play volleyball, listen to live music and eat at an outside barbecue or have a slice of pizza, as well as indoor dining at three notable restaurants. Camano Country Club invites the public to its pancake breakfast 9 a.m. to noon Sun., Aug. 16 when breakfast includes coffee and orange juice, pancakes, eggs, ham, sausage, corned beef hash, biscuit and eggs or biscuit and sausage gravy, and live music.
