Cash for clunkers environmentally not good
Dear Editor: Gee, is this Wonderland and I'm Alice? What a world when Clunkers for Dollars demands that trade-in cars have water and acid flushed through their gas tanks to ensure they'll never operate again! I must have been mistaken when I heard this plan was to get "polluters" off the road to save the environment. Full Story

Thanks for the best parade ever
Dear Editor: To the Stanwood Camano Fair Parade, you've done it again, the best parade ever! It was the longest parade ever. The three dogs walking alone were a joy. Dogs are smart. The restaurant between east and west Stanwood, La Hacienda's dancers were so great! Full Story

Family benefited from CIFR EMS
Dear Editor: My husband and I are writing in support of voting yes on the fire department levy. As much as we do not want another tax increase, we feel that this is a very important levy to pass. We had an emergency in our family a few years ago and were very impressed with the quality of care given by the paramedics. Full Story
No on transit and higher taxes now
Dear Editor: Once again we are being asked to bail out someone else. Where will it end? When will common sense come into play? When we have a county that appropriates our tax dollars to the arts over appropriating money to our fire and police, I'd say we have a priority issue. Full Story
Vote yes on CIFR fire/EMS levies
Dear Editor I am writing in regards to the fire department levy that is coming up on the ballot Aug. 18. With the poor economy, we are all hesitant to vote for anything that would increase our taxes. However, some people do not realize that the money generated by a levy does not end up in Olympia. Full Story
Full disclosure of CIFR budget discouraging
Dear Editor: Mr. Tom Difloe asked some questions about the levies for Camano Fire District 1 and Camano EMS. I have not seen the budgets for either unit and will certainly try to get that information. I do, however, have some information on the income growth of these units and the potential for future income if the levies are passed. Full Story
Health care reform will rob Medicare
Dear Editor: The health care reform bills before Congress will rob the dedicated Medicare Trust Fund of hundreds of billions of dollars, a probable death blow to the troubled fund we pay via the Medicare payroll tax on wages. Full Story
A day hemmed in prayer seldom unravels
Dear Editor: Thank you Fr. Bob Dietel, for sharing that tender message on prayer as a summer project in last week's meditation column. You covered all the bases on the how and when and why of prayer. The turbulence of the times we live in is completely removed in that unexplainable peace God provides during prayer time. Full Story
Nuts and bolts of CIFR levies
Dear Editor: As chair of the Board of Commissioners for Camano Island Fire and Rescue, I wish to address some issues raised by a letter to the editor. • On the stewardship of tax dollars, the fire district obtained the highest bond rating in the state by being excellent stewards of the district's funds. Old penny is just fine
Dear Editor: The other day, a young lady at the cash register gave me back change and said, "Isn't the new penny pretty? It has Lincoln on the back, fishing and reading a book." Well, without my glasses I couldn't tell if that is actually what Lincoln was doing, or, if it was Lincoln. Full Story
Support awardwinning transit
Dear Editor: On Aug. 18, Island Transit is putting a ballot measure to the voters requesting a small increase in the sales tax of Island County.
