Shane Jensen, Stanwood Police school resource officer, received the School Officer of the Year award from the Washington School Safety Organization. Taste to fund campaign to attract tourists
Committee to start planning event for next spring
Design Stanwood has begun work on The Taste of Port Susan, a new event organizers hope will bring visitors to Stanwood and fund future efforts to make the town attractive. The group hopes to pull restaurants from the whole area, not just Stanwood, to the spring event, said Renae Kettler, Design Stanwood chair of finance and fundraising. Full Story
Stanwood teen heads to Pokemon world competition
This Friday and Saturday, Josh Ferris, 12, of Stanwood, will be competing in the Pokemon Video Game World Championships in San Diego. Josh's dad, Phil, saw a story about the 2008 competition in a magazine. He and Josh found out the Seattle regional competition was in a week, and Josh decided to give it a shot. Full Story

A 1-year-old male beagle/cocker mix at CASA, Teddy's owners could no longer care for him because of a growing family. Teddy began digging in the yard and getting out in search of attention.
