A $3,484 grant was awarded by the Rotary District Simplified Grant program to the Stanwood Camano Rotary Club recently, to be used for the playground project at Freedom Park. Designers of the playground went to the folks who will be using it - the children. Full Story

Japan bound
Kevin Cruse is the winner of a scholarship awarded by Cultural Home International for his essay on "Why I would make an excellent Youth Ambassador." winning a trip to Japan. Traveling with 10 classmates and his teacher, Mrs. Yoko O'Donnell, he will be sightseeing and attending Japanese school while staying with his host family. Kevin said he is very excited! Sculpture stolen
"Not to Scale," made of discarded lumber mill saw blades by artist David Taber, was stolen early last week from a southeast beach of Camano Island. A granite rock is suspended in the middle. Taber said that that the worse part was that he wasn't finished. Please return it to the beach or call Tracy Hinkson, 253-970-8260. Full Story
CIFR improvements may reduce rates
Effective Sept. 1, Camano Island will carry a classification of "6" for buildings within five miles of a fire station and water supply. Full Story
Chihuahua jumped ship
Rocky, a black chihuahua, is believed to have jumped from his family's vehicle somewhere between Mount Vernon and Camano Island between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 1. The gift of a new kidney
Steve Colvin, of Camano Island, has a working kidney again. The Camano Island resident was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a condition where the kidney no longer filters the blood properly. The disease was a particular problem because he was born with only one kidney. Full Story
