John W. Finley, M.D.
Dr. John W. Finley passed away on July 6, 2009 in Stanwood at the age of 90. He was born in Great Falls, Mont. and attended school in Lewiston, Idaho.
He graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1943, then joined the Army and served in the European Theatre until 1947. He then settled in Seattle and practiced medicine until he retired in 1988.
John was active in numerous organizations. He was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, King County Medical Association, Washington State Medical Association, Seattle Surgical Society, North Pacific Surgical Association, Pacific Coast Surgical Association, American College of Surgeons, and University of Washington Harkins Surgical Society.
John is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, and children Michael Finley (Phyllis), Anne Finley, Judy Russell, Marnell Olson, step-sons Frank, Mark, Paul, Kurt and Glen VanderWel, and stepdaughter Tekla Vander- Wel. John was preceded in death by his first wife, Leona Finley, and son John (Bill) Finley, Jr.
John enjoyed an active life that included fishing, playing tennis and his love of reading. He spent his last nine years enjoying family and friends at his beach home on Camano Island. To know John is to know love!
