Russell Hohf of Stanwood, was sentenced to 15 and a quarter years in prison Thursday.
Hohf, 51, was convicted of first-degree assault in Snohomish County Superior Court earlier this month.
He shot Kevin Perrin, of Stanwood, in the face with a small caliber pistol on Oct. 14, 2007, when Perrin confronted Hohf over a dispute concerning Perrin's family.
The sentence was exactly what the state and Perrin had requested, said Valerie Shapiro, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor. They felt the length of time was necessary to protect public safety.
After the shooting, Perrin was at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for about a month, Shapiro said. He still has a suture in his carotid artery.
Hohf has been medicated every two weeks at Western State Hospital, Shapiro said. Even medicated, he did not admit any guilt.
The state Department of Corrections will determine what mental health treatment Hohf receives while incarcerated, she said. The doctor at Western State Hospital who has treated Hohf plans to follow up with the department.
In this case, the justice system worked, Shapiro said.
"The victim was lucky to survive," she said. "And Mr. Hohf is not going to be a threat to the community for the next 183 months."
