Driver narrowly misses skater
Stanwood Police responded to the following calls July 17 - 24: • On July 17, a 19-yearold Stanwood man drove onto the skate deck in the 9600 block of 276th Street NW where some skaters were riding their skateboards. He narrowly missed one of the skaters. He was referred for reckless driving and criminal trespass. Full Story

Some do-gooders are bringing a float to the Stanwood Camano Fair Parade Saturday. A physician at Stanwood's Everett Clinic, Dr. Joy Fackenthall has been to Panama annually for six years, to diagnose ailments and dispense medicines for the poor indigenous children of Bocas del Toro. Full Story
Hohf gets 15 years for shooting man
Russell Hohf of Stanwood, was sentenced to 15 and a quarter years in prison Thursday. Hohf, 51, was convicted of first-degree assault in Snohomish County Superior Court earlier this month. He shot Kevin Perrin, of Stanwood, in the face with a small caliber pistol on Oct. 14, 2007, when Perrin confronted Hohf over a dispute concerning Perrin's family. Full Story
Accident snarls traffic, no injuries
A three-car pile up that occurred at 5 a.m. on the Mark Clark Bridge tied up traffic for morning commuters Wednesday. According to North County Fire/EMS spokesman Christian Davis there were no injuries and no one had to be transported by aid car. Full Story

Local boys compete at lacrosse nationals
Three local lacrosse players joined Team Washi ngton at the U.S. Lacrosse National Championships for under 15 held July 8 to 10 in Baltimore, Maryland. Frank Medlicott, 15, of Stanwood, Connor Merritt, 15, of Stanwood, and Griffin Van Baush, 14, of Anacortes, play on the Stanwood lacrosse team. Full Story
North County Regional Fire Authority postpones levy
North County Regional Fire Authority Board of Commissioners voted to postpone its EMS levy renewal until 2010. Commissioners changed their minds about asking voters to renew an emergency medical services (EMS) levy this fall, citing economic concerns. Full Story
