Global warning can wait, economy first

Dear Editor:

The President's proposed Climate Change and Energy Bill is a disaster and will relegate America to being a second-rate power.

Our economic survival trumps all other environmental factors. We need all of the oil we can get that is ours, such as from the Arctic Ocean off Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. We need all of this oil because it is our only chance to regain control and lower the price of oil and gas.

We can save a trillion dollars a year . that's what we pay OPEC for their oil.

We also need to be building all the nuclear reactors we can build. I was a production supervisor for Dupont in the reactor section on the Savannah River Project. Nuclear can save us another trillion dollars a year.R

emember, we must have a strong economic well-being in order to survive as a world leader.

The President's bill before Congress is a collection of ideas that includes unproven means of providing energy and it does little for obtaining more oil and gas. We are presently running on coal for our electricity and oil for our cars, trucks, trains and airplanes.

The present system of industries and engineers are equipped to meet the problem.

The oil and power industries are capital intensive. They need every dollar they earn to expand their service to meet our needs.

Raising taxes and regulations on industry is counterproductive.

The government should get behind our industry.

We are developing alternative energy sources as they become competitive.

Wind is an example.

Global warming can wait until we get our house in order.

Our economy comes first.
