Cama Beach State Park activities take place at the beach area of the park near the office and historic store. Mon., July 20, a WSU Beach Watcher will conduct a low tide beach discovery at 9:30 a.m. Tues. July 21, there's a 10 a.m. nature walk with low tide a -3.5. At 1 p.m., Family Crafts teaches printing techniques with artist Kathleen Chase. July 22, scientists will do a 10 a.m. wetland plant survey, and at 1 p.m., learn about critters on the beach. Sat., July 25 at 1 p.m., families can meet local Camano fire and rescue volunteer firemen and see a fire engine. That evening at 7:30 p.m. at Camano Island State Park, Stanwood Camano Beekeepers teach about bees. There will be hands-on displays. Camano Island Fire and Rescue will hold a public meeting at Terry's Corner Fire Station, 525 E. North Camano Dr. July 27, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. to present information for the planned seismic up-grade of the station, which currently does not meet seismic structural codes. For information call 629-3008.

Commissioners accepting applications

The Board of Island County Commissioners are accepting applications now for the 2 percent Island County Hotel-Motel Lodging Tax Grant Program to support projects which attract visitors and encourage tourism. Deadline for applications is Aug. 31, and they must be in the commissioners office by 4:30 p.m. Applications sent by fax or e-mail will not be accepted.

South End Band String at car show

The collectors car show and flea market on Aug. 8 features the South End String Band, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Camano Senior and Community Center. The event includes Walt's pork butt BBQ, and a beer garden by the Diamond Knott Brewery. To register your cars or rent flea market space at the center, download forms at camanocenter.org.

'Zumba' benefit for island seniors

A "Zumba" benefit to raise funds for the Camano Island Senior and Community Center offers three hours of exercise starting at 4 p.m. Fri., Aug. 7. Seniors and beginners are invited. For information e-mail azumbagirl4life@gmail.com or call 452-422-8646.

French toast served at pancake breakfast

The monthly pancake breakfast at South Camano Grange is Sat., July 25, 8 to 11 a.m. All the pancakes you can eat, along with French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage and ham. For information call Pat at 629-3276.

'Simple Produce' is new at market

Tom and Dale's local organic farm "Simple Produce" is coming on board to sell their freshly picked organic produce at the LiveWell Saturday market/swap meet, including great Mexican food from La Hacienda. The market is open every Saturday 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., on McElroy Street north of Camano Plaza, with music.

Vendors wanted for Camano Commons Local artist vendors , antique estate and garage sales are wanted every Sunday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Contact: Sylvy, 360-572-4577.

Lady golfers host invitational

Camaloch Ladies 18 Hole Golf Club is hosting its annual golf invitational Thurs., July 23, with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. A full field of 144 players will be golfing. Lunch, raffle, silent auction and award presentation will be held at the Camano Senior Center following play.

Wed., July 22, 11 a.m., Trash to Treasure: use your imagination to transform trash into treasure. July 29, 11 a.m., from Pop to Picasso: learn about famous artists and create your own masterpiece. Fri., July 31, 1 p.m., storyteller Jill Johnson entertains. Aug. 7, Dino O'Dell summer reading program grand finale. Be part of an international musical journey. Drawings for reading prizes.

Barbecue dinner at Country Club The Camano Country Club is having a barbecue dinner with ribs, chicken & sausage on July 25, catered by Walter Grosjean. B.Y.O.B at 5:30 p.m. for dinner at 6:30 p.m. Co-chaired by Penny and Glen Jacobson and Margie and Don Habel.

Free summer outdoor cinema Free outdoor cinema is located at the corner of Dallman and East Camano. On July 24, the rare Finnish animated feature "The Snow Queen," along with "A Howdy Doody Christmas," will be shown. Expect a visit from Santa and surprises for the kids. The Outdoor Cinema does accept donations for film preservation. Every Friday through Sept. 4, a classic feature will be shown. If it rains, the show goes on in a genteely-shabby heated circus tent. Disabled access is available. For information call ahead, 387-4579. Gates open 7 p.m. and shows start at dusk. Open mike one hour before show time.

B rindles now has music outdoors Thurs., July 23, karaoke continues in Lally's Irish Pub upstairs in Brindle's Marketplace. The music for Fri., July 24 is Michael Gotz at 6:30 pm. On Sat., July 25, Alan Hatley's band Zazzo performs blues and classic rock . Outside at 3 p.m. Sun., July 26, it's Marcia Kester, with volleyball and barbecue from 1-4 p.m. Brindles Bistro and Wine Bar is located at Terry's Corner, Camano Island, 848 N. Sunrise Blvd., Bldg. Create living sedum wreathes at nursery

Joanne Romann will offer a class on designing living wreathes with a variety of sedums and succulents, from 10 a.m. - noon Sat., July 25 at Chrisitansons Nursery & Greenhouse. On Aug. 1, a class on Luring the Hummingbirds is offered from 11 a.m. - noon.
