Michelle Freedman, a Stanwood High School teacher, knows what it's like when children start the first day of school ill-prepared. "It's heartbreaking to see kids come in without supplies," said Freedman. After learning about a school supply jubilee event in Marysville, Freedom decided to host a similar event here. Meeting reinstated after rule mix-up

Use extra caution around road projects
Island County's engineer is seeking the patience and understanding of drivers during the busy months of road repair, when minor delays may be encountered. Caution in work zones is requested, with special attention to the instructions of flaggers, according to county officials. Full Story
Scholarships for adults and deadline is Aug. 14

Locals aid in search for Lake Stevens' boater
Volunteers with Support 99 helped in the search for the driver of a sunken boat in Lake Stevens over the weekend. The boat and driver went missing Saturday evening. Nine of the 10 occupants made it safely to shore. Full Story
Noteable start to crab season
Crabbing season has opened with a bang in areas 8.1 and 8.2, where almost all folks are catching their limits and finding a pleasant surprise—large crab. Reports say that crab are averaging 7-8 inches with a few even bigger than 10 inches. Full Story

For Kevin Reimer, of Camano Island, accepting the principal position at Highland Christian School in Arlington has meant a bit of a move. Actually, it meant moving more than 5,000 miles. Modified burn ban in effect for unincorporated areas
Due to high fire danger and expected hot and dry weather conditions continuing, a modified outdoor burn ban for the unincorporated areas of Snohomish County is now in effect. The new restriction bans outdoor burning except for recreational fires. Recreational fires are less than three feet in diameter and two feet high and are for cooking and pleasure only. Full Story
