Sara Chadwick and Sara Tracy opened SARAS DELI July 6. When it came to naming it they kept it simple "SARAS DELI" because they are both named Sara. They previously worked at Twin City Market & Deli and Twin City Shell. Sara Tracy was then known as being the favorite breakfast person. Full Story

JOSHUA D. DENNING, son of Kristin and David Denning of Stanwood, was recently designated a Naval Aviator while serving with Training Squadron 22, Naval Air Station, Kingsville, Texas. Denning was presented with the coveted "Wings of Gold," marking the culmination of months of flight training. Full Story

EARLY HISTORY July 13, 1859, Peter Hansen born in the Village of Fangel, Island of Fyn, Denmark, and sailed to Wash. in 1885, working on steamers around the Sound. He came to Florence, which was a regular port of call, and was attracted to Stanwood, bought property and later was one of the early developers of what is now East Stanwood; he stayed until his death in 1946. AAUW announce 2009 scholarship winners
Two scholarships of $2,500 each were recently awarded Stanwood High School graduates Jamie Johnson (1996) and Julie Bryant (2007) by the Stanwood Camano branch of American Association of University Women. 'God Light in Forest'
Jack Gunter wins second place for his painting, "God Light in Forest," at the annual juried art show presented by the Arts Council of Snohomish County in Everett. A renowned Camano Island artist whose work ranges from archaeological pots to clam diggers on the beach, Gunter entered three works in the show, all revisiting a body of work that features paintings of Native American baskets in an impressionist method of painting with dabs of paint. The winners were selected by jurors Reg Akright, Merrilee Moore and Barbara De Pirro. The Arts Council Gallery in the historic Monte Cristo, at 1507 Wall St., in Everett, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Other Stanwood/Camano artists in the show include Chaim Bezalel and Susan Cohen Thompson. The grand prize winner was Lynda Lord. Full Story
Arney is named new copy editor
