Service project
Boy Scouts Troop 46 of Camano Island recently completed a service project at Lime Kiln State Park on San Juan Island on their 105-mile bike trip. The scouts picked up garbage at the lighthouse park. Scouts were Paul Beykovsky, Debbie Beykovsky, Nathan Beykovsky, Adam Beykovsky, Joe Uhrich, Nick Uhrich, Eli Metz, Mark Norman, Curtis Maile, Gunnar Guddal, Malcolm Johnson and Sam Jacks. Full Story

Sign
Kindra Johnson, of Camano Island, designed the new sign unveiled recently in the teen department of Stanwood Library. Johnson will be a senior at Stanwood High School this fall. The sign was purchased with funds provided by the Friends of the Stanwood-Camano Library, said the library's teen librarian Rob Branigin. The Stanwood Library is located at 9701 271st St. NW, in Stanwood. Full Story

Abbey Lorraine Westley of Marysville will wed Joshua Craven Harris of Camano Island July 11, on Camano Island. The bride's parents are Denise and Barry Westley of Marysville, and the groom's parents are Deborah and Mark Harris of Camano Island. The couple will live in Stanwood. The brideelect is employed at Haggen Food & Pharmacy in Burlington, and the groom-elect is employed at Angel of the Winds Casino. The couple will honeymoon in St. Lucia. Full Story

Sayre C. Dodgson is turning 102 July 8, 2009. She has lived in Stanwood/Camano island area since 1947 and is known and loved by many. Sayre Cooney Dodgson still lives at her Stanwood home with the help of her loving caregivers. The family is throwing her a birthday party Sat. Alyssa De Lange and Jared Ryker, of Burlington, announce their engagement and plans for an Aug. 14 wedding in Stanwood. The bride-elect is the daughter of Pam and William De Lange of Fresno, Calif. She is employed as a front desk supervisor at Plastic Surgery Bellingham. The groom-elect is the son of Sheila Davidson of Stanwood and John Ryker of Lake Stevens. He is employed by Aurora Rents in Stanwood. The couple met through friends. Sharing memories
Seventeen of the 19 people who attended Stanwood schools all the way from kindergarten in 1976 to graduation in June, 1989, were at the 20- year class reunion held in the senior center on Camano Island Saturday night. It was discovered that of the approximately 60 people in attendance (which included spouses and significant others), nearly one-third of them were in the school district for 13 years. Eleven classmates were recognized who have served or are serving in the military. Full Story

Scholarship winner
The Camano Island Women's Republican Club's scholarship committee members Joie Gifford, Ann Christiansen and Cheryl Estes, scholarship committee chair, with this year's scholarship winner Brendan Beykovsky, standing in back, and Brendan's mother Debbie Beykovsky, at right. The CIWRC's annual Home Tour on July 11 this year supports a scholarship each year to a qualifying Stanwood High senior. The Beykovskys were guests at the June 23 meeting at Lost Lake. Tickets for the tour may be purchased at the Tea House, at the Camano Lutheran Church on the day of the tour. Full Story

'Dust Off'
Camano Island Fire and Rescue personnel conduct medical evacuation training on Camano Island with Airlift Northwest's newest air ambulance helicopter. Levon Yengoyan, assistant fire chief, said the training went well. "We work closely with Airlift Northwest to ensure we are up to speed on each other's operations," said Yengoyan. Full Story
