Fritjov Lodge at Border Festival Fritjov Lodge No. 17, Sons of Norway in Stanwood, will participate in the Border Festival Sun., July 12, which is the 100th anniversary of District 2, Sons of Norway. The party takes place at Peace Arch Park in Blaine, with horseshoes around 9:30-10 a.m. Games throughout the day include tug-of-war, with a potluck lunch at noon. Each person brings their own complete table service. Coffee, tea and some juice will be provided. Period clothing from around 1910 encouraged. Including a display of historic cars and household items.
Blood drive at local medical center Puget Sound Blood Center urges community members to donate the "gift of life" at the Wed., July 8, blood drive, 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 1:15- 4 p.m. at Stanwood-Camano Medical Center. Preregistration is required by calling 1-800-398-7888. There is also screening to detect peripheral arterial disease, elevated cholesterol, for adults over age 18. Library hosts reading program "Ready Readers" family story times are offered Wednesdays through Aug. 5, 10:30 a.m., to help children ages 18 months and up get ready to read with stories, songs and rhymes with a parent or caregiver. A fun craft project follows each story time. At 9:30 a.m., "Ready Readers" is for newborns through 24 months and a caregiver is required. "From Pop to Picasso" for school-age children to explore art styles and learn about famous artists, then create a masterpiece, starting 11 a.m. Thurs., July 9. Participants get a chance to win a gift card.
Free clinic offers urgent care The Safe Harbor Free Clinic is open 6 to 9 p.m. the first and third Fridays of the month for walk-in patients only. No appointments are necessary. Senior center thrift store re-opening
Stanwood Community and Senior Center, located at 7430 - 276th St. NW, north of Stanwood High School, announces the grand reopening of its thrift store July 20-25. Its new name, "The Center Court," highlights the historical significance of the original gymnasium of Lincoln Hill School, built in 1938. Hours are Monday- Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place 10 a.m., Mon., July 20, with Mayor Dianne White officiating. Former Lincoln Hill basketball stars Pug Lund and Peter Henning will be given special recognition. Refreshments will be served.
Knitters meet at St. Aidan's North Sound Knitters Guild meets Tues., July 14, at St Aidan's Episcopal Church on Camano Island, 6 to 9 p.m. The program is "needles and doodads." Local artists juried show in Everett The Arts Council of Snohomish County's 17th Juried Show is a biannual exhibit of Northwest artists showing a variety of mediums, including egg tempera, acrylics, pastels, photography, watercolors, encaustics, sculpture, mixed media and more, featuring the works of over three dozen artists' egg tempera, acrylics, pastels, photography, watercolors, encaustics, sculpture, mixed media and more.
