Dignitaries plant a tree to kick off the construction of a new Mark Clark Bridge
The $84 million Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) SR 532 improvement project kicked off with a ceremonial planting of a cedar tree by local and state government officials Wednesday. Enforcement cars should be equipped with alarm systems
It's not uncommon to see a Stanwood Police Department or Island County Sheriff's Office vehicle backed up in a driveway here, ready to go. Agencies like Island County Sheriff's Office and Washington State Patrol have a policy of leaving vehicles equipped when parked at the homes of its law enforcement officers. Full Story

MarthWest, 85, of Stanwood, passed away on July 2, 2009 amid the warmth and comfort of her loving family. Martha was born Nov. 18, 1923 in Buffalo, New York, to George Hoare and Martha Daley. She grew up in a large caring family including her siblings George, William, Joseph, James, John and Paul Daley, Mary Ann Hart and Doris Rose. Full Story
EDITH ELISABETH KIRKPATRICK
Edith Elisabeth Kirkpatrick passed into the arms of her everlasting Savior July 1, 2009. Edith was born in Seattle Nov. 13, 1919 to Swedish immigrants, Mathilda and Gustav Peterson. Her father left Sweden at the age of 17, met her mother in Vancouver, B.C., and they later moved to Seattle. Full Story
LOUIS VINCENT FRANCIOLI,
Louis Vincent Francioli, born Feb. 10, 1927, beloved husband of Natalie A. Francioli, father to Steven A. Francioli (daughter-inlaw Susan), grandfather to Stephanie, Lisa, Nicholas and also survived by brothers Martin and Ronald. Louis passed away on Wed., July 1, 2009 in Stanwood at age 82.
