Great weather and awesome cars brought spectators out by the hundreds. Great weather and awesome cars brought spectators out by the hundreds. The glint of chrome could be seen for miles during the seventh annual Twin City Idlers (TCI) "Show and Shine" car show held Sunday.

Hundreds of spectators enjoyed the warm weather as they checked out nearly 500 classic, custom, sport and racing vehicles that lined 271st Street NW from 88th Avenue NW to just past Stanwood Middle School.

Les Anderson, TCI president, said the car show has grown each year.

"Classic and custom cars, trucks and motorcycles as a hobby has really grown over the last 15 years, with the 'baby boomers' getting into it in a big way," said Anderson. "There are roughly 100 members in the Twin City Idlers car club, and this is our big event."

The first show was held in the parking lot of Twin City Foods and quickly proved how popular the event was going to be, when the lot filled beyond capacity.

"Last year we had officially 478 vehicles registered in the TCI show," he said.

Participants pay to enter their vehicles but the show is free to spectators.

The TCI car club is a non-profit organization that gives back to the community through charitable donations.

Money raised from the car show is donated to the Stanwood Camano Food Bank, the Stanwood Community Senior Center and Camano Senior and Community Center. The Idlers also support a scholarship endowment that they give every year to a graduating student to pursue a career in a diesel or auto mechanics-related field.

"We encourage anybody with an interest or fancy for nice cars and trucks to come and join our club," said Anderson.

The Idlers meet 6 p.m. the last Thursday of every month at Stanwood Cafe.
